    Overnight Camel Trekking Merzouga
    Tour Details

The Overnight Camel Trekking Merzouga is the Sahara experience everyone should have at least once. In the late afternoon you climb aboard a camel and ride in caravan over the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, reaching a traditional Berber camp just as the sun sets. After a home-cooked dinner and music around the fire, you sleep under a sky ablaze with stars and wake for a magical desert sunrise before riding back.

This is the most popular way to spend a night in Merzouga because it packs every classic desert moment — a sunset camel trek, dinner in camp, Berber drumming, stargazing and sunrise — into a single, easy overnight. The camp sits among the tallest dunes of Erg Chebbi, far enough from the village to feel wonderfully remote yet only a short trek away.

Your Overnight Camel Trekking Merzouga is fully private and runs every day of the year, with standard and luxury camp options and camps that can be reached by 4×4 if you prefer not to ride. Spring and autumn bring the most comfortable temperatures, while winter nights are cold and clear and summer offers warm, star-filled skies.

    ProgrammeOvernight Camel Trekking Merzouga

Late afternoon – Departure into the dunes: You meet your camel guide at the edge of Merzouga around 4:00–5:00 PM (timing shifts with the season so you always ride into the sunset). Your main luggage is stored safely and you take just an overnight bag before setting off by camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Sunset over Erg Chebbi: After about 1 to 1.5 hours of gentle trekking you reach the desert camp. There is time to climb a high dune and watch the sun sink over the endless sand, one of the most beautiful moments of any Morocco trip.

Evening in camp: Back at camp you are welcomed with mint tea before a traditional Moroccan dinner — usually soup, tagine and fruit. The evening continues around the campfire with Berber drumming, and later the clear desert sky is perfect for stargazing.

Overnight: You sleep in a comfortable nomad-style tent with real beds, blankets and pillows.

Sunrise & return: Wake early for sunrise over the dunes and a light breakfast, then ride your camel back to Merzouga, arriving around 8:00–9:00 AM where your onward journey or transfer continues.
